The PBIL-IBCP Lyon-Gerland is the protein part of the Pôle BioInformatique Lyonnais. The PBIL was created in January 1998 in collaboration with Dr. M.Gouy's team. The PBIL Lyon-Gerland, located at the Institute of Biology and Chemistry of Proteins (IBCP UMR 5086), is developing :
Several methods dedicated to protein secondary structure prediction
Detection of fuzzy motifs in protein sequences
Automatic molecular modeling tools (Geno3D)
Hepatitis C virus database (HCVDB)
Integrated Webware (NPS@)
The bioinformatics activities in Région-Rhônes Alpes has been funded by a contractual plan ("Plan Etat-Région" or CPER). This CPER associates 3 laboratories:
The main goal of this CPER was to create a "centre" able to play a significant role at both the national and international levels. Two building expansions were planned for the PBIL (Pôle Bioinformatique Lyonnais).
For PBIL-IBCP (representing the upper floor of the IBCP new status, the expansion has been achieved in october 2003.
